22b more pedal clavichord references: Douwes 1699, Gebel (via Mattheson 1740), Adlung 1768, Reynvaan 1795. Jacob Adlung devotes a whole chapter to the pedal clavichord in his Musica Mechanica Organoedi of 1768. Towards the end of this chapter he alludes to a specifically domestic use of the instrument. I know of ten surviving pedal clavichords, four of which are German and five Swedish, all dated between 1748 and 1810. A ll the Swedish instruments are pedal pull-downs.
